Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is a national research institute tasked with supporting Qatar in addressing its grand challenges related to energy, water, and environment.

The Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI) is seeking a highly motivated and impact-driven Research Scientist specializing in climate science to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in climate science, atmospheric sciences, or a related field, along with a minimum of 3 years of post-PhD (or industrial) experience.
The successful candidate will focus on regional climate modeling and simulations, contributing to climate change impact assessments, assessing adaptation strategies tailored to Qatar and the broader Middle East region. Additionally, they will engage in public outreach and stakeholder engagement, helping translate scientific findings into actionable policies and solutions. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong research track record in and passionate about regional climate change modelling and climate studies for arid regions.
- Develop, optimize and apply regional climate model simulations (e.g., using WRF other models).
- Assess climate change impacts on key sectors such as urban environments, energy, and water resources.
- Investigate climate adaptation strategies and develop related policy recommendations.
- Engage with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and the public to communicate climate risks and solutions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on climate resilience and sustainability research.
- Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in leading international journals and present findings at major scientific conferences.
- Lead and contribute to competitive research funding applications at national and international levels.
- Contribute to the mentorship and supervision of postgraduate students, research assistants, and early-career researchers.
- PhD in Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry or related areas.
- A minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in climate modeling and analysis.
- Strong background in regional climate modeling.
- Experience with bias correction techniques for climate simulations.
- Familiarity with climate impact assessment frameworks and adaptation planning.
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, NCL) for data analysis and model development, including High Performance Computing.
- Excellent scientific communication skills, including public engagement experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
- Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and contributions to climate and environmental research or applied health studies.
- Ability to work independently and lead research activities within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, including experience engaging with national stakeholders, regulators, or multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working in arid and extreme climate regions.
- Previous engagement with policy development and climate risk communication.
- Experience in securing research funding and managing projects.
