Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press was launched in 2010 in Doha, Qatar. A local publishing house with a global perspective, HBKU Press strives to empower Arab voices and stories, as well as translate critical literary contributions from around the world to make quality literature more accessible to readers of all ages and reading levels.
HBKU Press aims to shape the academic research and literary landscape of the region by contributing its unique Qatari and Arab voices, ideas, and perspectives and encourages and supports talents throughout the writing journey. As a dedicated platform for academic and trade publishing, HBKU Press strives to foster, support, and highlight Qatari and regional academics, authors, illustrators, and translators.
HBKU Press seeks applications for the position of Sales Officer. The selected candidate will be responsible to sell the HBKU Press produced list of books in all their formats (printed, digital, audio and print on demand) throughout the region and internationally to local and international bookstores, bookstore chains, non-traditional retailers and premium sales to corporations/distributors
- Be responsible for setting sales targets to ensure HBKU Press meets projected profitability targets and achieves revenue.
- Assist in the development and implementation strategies for maximizing sales of all titles in Arabic and English.
- Liaise with distribution channels to ensure smooth supply and appropriate sales management.
- Ensure that all relevant titles reach appropriate customers including researching new customers and setting up accounts.
- Utilize appropriate inventory management systems such as Bright pearl
- Develop a database of potential accounts in Qatar/MENA/International, including key contact people, showing priority accounts, the intended frequency of contact with priority accounts, and describing the key characteristics of each account.
- Be aware of all relevant activities and publications by competitor publishers.
- Recommend participation at targeted regional and international book fairs and liaise with distributors to represent HBKUP, including running HBKUP’s presence at Doha International Book Fair.
- Maintain reliable records of all accounts and transactions and provide monthly sales report to the Head of Finance and Publishing Services.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a sales and distribution strategy for the MENA and International region, including printed books, e-books, audio books and print on demand books.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisor
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
- Minimum 2-5 years' experience in similar field, preferably within the Gulf region
- Expertise in academic or trade sales.
- Business savviness and an ability to negotiate terms with distributors, book sellers, etc.
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent spoken and written Arabic and English to communicate with regional clientele.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, to run reports. Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
