Talk focused on terahertz antenna designs and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces

Dr. Qammer Abbasi, Professor, University of Glasgow’s James Watt School of Engineering, outlining 6G-enabling technologies and their use cases to attendees.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering (CSE) invited Dr. Qammer Abbasi, Professor, University of Glasgow’s James Watt School of Engineering, to give a talk on sixth generation (6G) mobile network-enabling technologies and their use cases in healthcare.

Dr. Abbasi’s talk centered on crucial 6G technologies including terahertz antenna design and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs), outlining how they facilitate advanced mobile networks capable of handling extremely high data rate applications.

With the unprecedented speed afforded by 6G, Dr. Abbasi also elaborated on how future wireless networks have uses that go beyond telecommunications. As he sees it, this new technology could help usher in an era of ultra-massive connectivity where advanced applications including tele-operated driving, unmanned mobility and haptic communications are more feasible than ever before.
