College of Islamic Studies Faculty Leads Session on UN Development Goals in Turkey

A session to support children and teenager sustainability learning was recently led by the College of Islamic Studies’ assistant dean of innovation and community development at a local art studio in Kocaeli, Turkey. During his time at the Atelier Fazilet art studio, Dr. M. Evren Tok of CIS delivered a session focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in which he showcased Qatar’s efforts to support the goals on a global level. The session was facilitated by Turkish artist, Ms. Fazilet Erdem, who organized a series of workshops in tandem with Darica Municipality Public Education Center. Several local artists, teachers and experts joined Atelier Fazilet in hosting various capacity building, awareness, educational and recreational activities for participants aged between 6 and 18 years old. The sessions underscored the importance of SDGs and the urgent need for youth involvement and awareness in addressing global challenges. The event showcased the way CIS and its academic programs, such as Islam and Global Affairs, aim to integrate academic Islamic grounding with contemporary social sciences. CIS will be organizing “Maker Majlis: Islam in a Global World” on September 22 to 25, with the participation of 22 local and international partners, fusing SDGs, the Qatar National Vision 2030, and Islam.
