Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has solidified its academic and research efforts with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it has signed with the Brookings Doha Center (BDC).

The MoU will underline areas of mutual benefit and develops a cooperative framework designed to facilitate scholarly exchanges, internships, and BDC-HBKU activities. In doing so, both entities will have a steadfast commitment towards supporting Qatar’s National Vision 2030. 

Hamad Bin Khalifa University is a fast-emerging university located in the heart of Education City – an academic hub hosting some of the world’s top-tier universities. Brookings Doha Center is an overseas center of the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. As a hub for Brookings scholarship in the region since 2008, the BDC advances high-quality, independent research and policy analysis on the Middle East and North Africa.

Speaking after the signing, Tarik Yousef, director of Brookings Doha Center, said: “We are delighted to partner with HBKU, one of the region’s most ambitious universities with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research. As we continue to enhance our output, we look forward this new MoU with HBKU to bolster our research capabilities, expand our academic network and community outreach.”  

Commenting on HBKU’s behalf, Dr. Emad El-Din Shahin, interim provost, said: “HBKU strives to build connections with like-minded organizations and our agreement with the BDC today is a testimony to the university’s growing research potential. Our partnership with BDC will encourage policy-led debate and research on topics that are not limited to security, international relations, and governance reform. 

These topics are of growing importance in light of an increasingly complex political, social, and economic landscape in the Middle East.”

HBKU offers more than 35 academic degrees spanning Islamic Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, Law, Health and Life Sciences, and Public Policy. All of HBKU’s degrees were designed to meet the current and future needs of the job market.
