CPP Supports Plastic Awareness Campaign

Dr. Logan Cochrane, Associate Professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP), has been working with a group of 12 students from Etqan Global Academy to conceptualize their plastic awareness campaign.

The students, in Grades 1 to 7, set out to raise awareness and encourage behavior change on the over-consumption of plastic. The opportunity to showcase their ideas emerged with the support of Qatar Foundation, who invited the students to create a display for Education City’s Oxygen Park during Ramadan.

In partnership with Seashore Recycling and Sustainability Center, the students were able to fill a large metal sphere created from recovered metals with plastic waste. Following weekends of brainstorming, experimentation, and building, they also created artwork from plastics and designed poster boards to raise awareness. With Dr. Cochrane’s support, the young students are striving to achieve their campaign objectives and call on their communities to reduce their use of plastic and recycle what they cannot eliminate.
