Dr. Sultan Barakat, Professor in Public Policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Public Policy (CPP) participated in the Amsterdam Dialogue 2023, which took place May 22-23, 2023.

Organized by the Dialogue Advisory Group, International Crisis Group, and Human Rights Watch, the Amsterdam Dialogue is an annual high-level conference that explores peace and justice issues in contemporary conflict. This year’s programme included panels on the conflicts in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Haiti, Ethiopia and Sudan. 

Dr Barakat presented on the recent developments in Afghanistan and participated in roundtable discussions with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, as well as on how sanctions help and hinder peace. Other distinguished participants included the Dutch Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sigrid Kaag, Former Chilean Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola, and Kenya’s National Security Advisor Monica Juma.
