Biography
Dr. Aittaleb received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Liege in Belgium. His dissertation was on “molecular and structural adaptations to low temperatures of psychrophilic enzymes”.
As postdoctoral fellow at Florida State University’s Institute of Molecular Biophysics, he solved the crystal structure of tRNA methylation complex and demonstrated how snoRNA assemble into snoRNP to guide specific pre-tRNA methylation.
From 2004 to 2015, Dr. Aittaleb held different positions at the University of Michigan. As Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Associate, he applied the biomolecular fluorescent complementation (BiFC) approach to investigate histone ubiquitylation and the role of poly-glutamine ataxin-3 in neurodegenerative Ataxia disease. Then, he worked as Senior Research Scientist at the Life Sciences Institute and Department of Pharmacology, where he studied the structure and spatiotemporal dynamics of G-protein regulated RhoGEFs. He then worked, as Research Investigator at Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, on the regulation and trafficking of postsynaptic scaffold proteins at the neuromuscular junction.
In 2015, Dr. Aittaleb moved to University of Cincinnati’s Vontz Institute and Brain Tumor Center as Senior Scientist. He was investigating Drug resistance to EGFR therapy and survival pathways of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the blood of glioblastoma metastatic patients.

Dr. Ali Ghrayeb is a professor at the College of Science and Engineering. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA. Prior to his current position at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, he was a Professor of electrical engineering at Texas A&M University in Qatar. He has also served as a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Canada.
He has co-authored two books and published over 300 journal and conference papers. His research interests include wireless and mobile communications, visible light communications, smart grid, security, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. He served as an Instructor and co-instructor in many technical tutorials at several major IEEE conferences. He also served as the Executive Chair of the 2016 IEEE WCNC Conference.
Dr. Ali Ghrayeb is also a member of the IEEE ComSoc Conferences Council, the IEEE GITC Committee, and the IEEE WCNC Steering Committee. He served in different editorial capacities on a number of IEEE transactions journals. He currently serves on the IEEE ComSoc Awards Committee. He co-chairs the IEEE PIMRC 2025 conference. He is also a Fellow of the IEEE.

He received his diploma in Computer Science from RWTH Aachen, Germany, in 2004 and his doctorate in Computer Science from Technical University Munich, Germany, in 2009.

Dr. Mowafa Said Househ (موفق سعيد حوسة), PhD, is a researcher, innovator, social entrepreneur, teacher, and author of health informatics in the Arab World affiliated with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, College of Science and Engineering, Qatar Foundation, Qatar. His primary research interests are around the use of information and communication technologies to empower patients and clinicians, specifically focusing on Social Media and Mobile Technologies in Healthcare in the promotion of public health practice and healthcare literacy.
Dr. Househ is also an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Victoria School of Health Information Science, Victoria, BC, Canada.

Abdesselam Bouzerdoum (M’89–SM’03 IEEE) graduated with MSEE and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. In 1991, he joined Adelaide University, South Australian, and from 1998 to 2004 he was an Associate Professor with Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia. In September 2004, he was appointed Professor of Computer Engineering and Head of School of Electrical, Computer & Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Wollongong. From 2007 to 2013, he served as Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Informatics. Since March 2017, he has also been a Professor with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar. Dr. Bouzerdoum held several Visiting Professor Appointments at Institut Galilée, Université Paris-13, LAAS/CNRS, Toulouse, France, Villanova University, USA, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. From 2009 to 2011, he was a member of the ARC College of Experts and Deputy Chair of the EMI panel (2010–2011).
Dr. Bouzerdoum is the recipient of the Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Support of Defence or National Security (2011), the Chester Sall Award of IEEE Trans. Consumer Electronics (2005), and a Distinguished Researcher Award (Chercheur de Haut Niveau) from the French Ministry (2001). He served as Associate Editor for 5 International journals, including IEEE TRANS. IMAGE PROCESSEING, IEEE TRANS. SYSTEMS, MAN, AND CYBERNETICS (1999–2006). He has published over 350 technical articles and graduated over 30 Ph.D. and Research Masters students. His research interest include radar imaging and signal processing, image processing, vision, machine learning, and pattern recognition.

Dr. Mustapha Aouida received his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2003 from both the Science University of Tunis and Gustave Roussy Institute, Paris. For his post-doctoral fellowship he joined Professor Ramotar at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Research Institute in Montreal where he studied the mechanism by which yeast cells and mammalian cells become resistant to the antitumor drug bleomycin. Dr. Aouida joined the College of Health and Life Sciences in April 2016 as a Lab Manager and is currently a Research Scientist at the college.

Dr. Vishnubalaji Radhakrishnan earned his Master’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and Ph.D. in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine from Bharathidasan University, India, and has conducted his Ph.D. research work at Southampton University, UK; Southern University, Denmark and King Saud University, Riyadh. Dr. Vishnu completed his post-doctoral work at the King Saud University, Riyadh and Southern University, Denmark. His experiences are very well accomplished in the field of stem cells and cancer biology with interdisciplinary techniques. During his postdoctoral training, he studied on novel biomarker discovery and targeted therapeutics for breast and colorectal cancers together with cancer stem cells and also investigated the novel epigenetic compounds that regulate the bone forming potential of human mesenchymal stem cells. He has published more than 20 articles in top-tier ISI-indexed journals.

Dr. Gabriele Oligeri is an Associate Professor at College of Science and Engineering. Prof. Amine Bermak is a Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. He received his Master's and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Microelectronics and Microsystems) from Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France, in 1994 and 1998, respectively.
His research can be best described as being at the crossroads between algorithmic solutions and hardware-friendly VLSI architecture for sensors, microsystems, and Artificial Intelligence applications. He has published 539 papers (230 journals, 8 book chapters, 286 conference papers, and 15 patents), mostly in top-tier venues. Prof. Bermak has delivered 26 invited keynotes and won 7 best paper awards.
He is the recipient of the Best Researcher Award at CSE in 2019, the Best Innovator Award at HBKU in 2022, the Service Excellence Award at HBKU in 2023, and the Research Excellence Award at HBKU in 2024. He is the General Chair of IEEE DELTA 2008, IEEE BioCAS 2009, and ICM 2024. He has also served on multiple editorial boards of IEEE journals. Prof. Bermak is a Fellow of IEEE and an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. He has been the Chair of the HBKU University Senate since 2024.
