In October, Qatar will witness a unique event that will have future repercussions not only on the country but on the entire region, when it holds the country’s first Shura Council elections which will also have unprecedented legislative and oversight powers. The event calls for several questions: Have Qatari women prepared for these elections? Do they see themselves as eligible to compete in light of social traditions that still constitute an obstacle to a real breakthrough for the nation's women?

All these questions and others will be the focus of our next webinar, the first in a series on Qatari women's affairs organized by graduates of the MA in Women, Society and Development Program, to tackle women’s issues in the light of societal progress and economic development in Qatar.
