Racism, Sustainability, and the Law

In addition to drawing attention to the prevalence of racism, the Black Lives Matter movement has sparked an imperative discussion about the various forms of racism (whether overt or implicit) and how racism should be addressed. A related yet equally overarching issue is how stakeholders in the public and private sectors can achieve or strive toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their spheres of operations by protecting the fundamental dignity of all members of society. Goal 10 in particular calls for a reduction of inequality within and among countries.

This session will draw on legal principles and practices to better understand why eliminating racism is essential to the development of a sustainable society as envisioned by the SDGs.
