Notwithstanding the enduring and rich legacy of islah (Islamic reform), the study of it is relatively limited to modern times. The lecture attempts to shed light on this legacy by evaluating the contributions of an outstanding pre-modern Muslim scholar, al-Ghazali. The lecture will assess his teachings and evaluate his attempts at islah. The lecture will also highlight a number of strengths and weaknesses of al-Ghazali’s efforts and critically discuss some of the criticism directed at him.

Guest Speaker:

Dr. Mohamed Abubakr A Al-Musleh, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Qatar University
