Regeneration of Photoreceptors from Intrinsic Stem Cells

This seminar will focus on the current state of research around repairing the vertebrate retina.  

Dr. Peter Hitchcock, University of Michigan, will discuss the different ways to repair the retina, and the use of stem cells that are present in the eye, which in some cases may help to restore vision in cases of injuries or disease.

He will describe the recent results of his studies regarding the cytokine/growth factor, Midkine-a, and the inflammatory protease, matrix metalloproteinase-9, during photoreceptor regeneration in zebrafish.
