Description:

The 11th Foundation of Islamic Finance Conference (FIFC) 2021 is an international consortium where leading universities share the key goal of developing authentic literature in Islamic Finance as a scholarly discipline by organizing a three-day web-based conference. The seven universities are Sunway University, Malaysia as the host organizer jointly with INCEIF, Malaysia; Istanbul University, Turkey; Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar; Istanbul Commerce University, Turkey; La Trobe University, Australia; Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Turkey jointly holding this conference. The consortium of international universities is proud to host an international meeting using Emerald’s GoToWebinar platform as a service to this scholarly endeavor.

FIFC started with a very large financial grant from the Australian Research Council in 2005 to a research team led by Professor Mohamed Ariff at  Monash University, Australia to generate original research to add new authentic literature to the then-emerging discipline of Islamic Finance. The first three meetings were held in Melbourne, Australia, after which subsequent meetings were hosted internationally in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Durham University, and Lancaster University in the UK.as well as UUM, INCEIF, and Sunway University in Malaysia. This series of conferences has led to the publication of eight peer-reviewed books on Islamic banking, sukuk, financial institutions, wealth management, economics and banking risk published by reputed publishers such as Edward Elgar, John Wiley,  and Islamic Finance series. Together with the best papers identified published at each meeting and also published independently by paper presenters in journals over nine years, there is strong evidence of creating  authentic literature by the FIFC.

This year the conference will focus on:

  1. Program: All peer-reviewed accepted papers are to be presented during three days of presentations/discussions of your papers following the blind review process for selection of extended abstracts/papers by the International Review Panel of professors.
  2. Best Paper Awards: Of the papers presented/discussed as evidencing original contributions to the growing IF literature, four papers will win the Certificate of Best Paper Award. The winning papers are to be published subsequently in one or more journals associated with the 11th FIFC. Authors must indicate on the first page if they are  participating in the competition, and if the paper is selected shall not withdraw from publishing in the journals associated with the 11th FIFC. In addition, two best practice-relevant or applied papers will win the Certificate of Best Paper Awards. This prize is provided by the Chartered Financial Analyst body. These winning papers will be decided by the Review Panel only and shall be published in the CFA’s Asia-Pacific journal for use by the CFA community.
  3. Journals: A number of other-than the best papers will be selected by the editor(s) of three ranked Scopus-indexed journals (Journal Islamic Accounting and Business Research; Turkish Journal of Islamic Economics; and Borsa Istanbul Review (tbc)) as associated journals of the 11th FIFC. The selected papers by a Review Panel will undergo a further journals’ review process, and if accepted, published in the three associated journals.  There will be an opportunity to publish your good works in a career-okay journal.
  4. Islamic Finance Book: A number of pre-commissioned chapters for the  book Capital Market Research in Islamic Finance will be presented during a plenary session for discussion/comments for the writers to revise and contribute to a book to be published after the conference. Papers presented under and falling within the coverage of the book may be invited to be included in the book. It is the intention of the organizers to consider publishing another book by Routledge, details of which will be revealed at a later date.
