Awqaf institutions have played a pivotal socio-economic role throughout Islamic history. This lecture will introduce the concept of “Waqf” or charitable endowment and its history in Qatar – how it has helped in the scientific, social, health, and economic aspects of life – through the six Islamic banks and the active role they play within society today. 

This lecture will also explore the most important modern Waqf projects, the governance of Waqf in Qatar, its financial mechanisms, and the future horizons in developing the Waqf sector. 

The lecture will be held at the Minaretein (College of Islamic Studies building), from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, on September 11, 2019.
