The Importance of Public Involvement in Autism Research

12Apr2022

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex, heterogeneous, neurodevelopmental disorder that has created numerous hurdles from understanding the fundamental molecular mechanisms that contribute to it, to identifying individuals within the spectrum, and developing medical interventions.

Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), a national center of excellence under Qatar Foundation (QF)’s Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has been actively involved in recruiting children with and without ASD to be part of its extensive scientific investigations. These cover proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, immunology and functional studies to address complexities associated with ASD.

In this online seminar, we will discuss the significance of public involvement in providing a platform for ASD research to grow, and in turn propel our understanding of autism, and drive personalized treatment avenues.
