Breast Cancer: Family History and Missed Opportunities

24Oct2021

Breast cancer is considered the most diagnosed cancer in women. While the majority of cases are caused by mutations, a significant fraction of breast cancer is familial (i.e. hereditary).

Using state of the art technologies, Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) and King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) have recently embarked on a regional study to identify novel susceptibility genes for familial breast cancer from the Arab region beyond BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, which are associated with approximately five to ten percent of all breast cancers.

Most risk-increasing genetic alterations were identified through studies on familial breast cancer from western countries. This online seminar will discuss different aspects of familial breast cancer from the region.
