In this event, Dr. Ali Ahmida will present insights from his groundbreaking book “Genocide in Libya” (Routledge, 2021), followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Fatima Ahdash.
The panel will explore what constitutes genocide under international law, using Italy's actions in Libya during the 1920s and 1930s as a case study. It will focus on the reliability of oral testimonies and the use of engineered famine as a weapon of genocide. Additionally, the discussion will highlight the long history of silence surrounding the genocide in Libya, contrasting it with today’s notion of "live-streamed genocide."
This event will be held in English.
