This seminar will be held in English.
This seminar contextualizes the emergence of Palestinian documentary filmmaking in the aftermath of the 1967 June War. Pioneer filmmakers like Mostafa Abou Ali and photographers like Solafa Jadallah and Hani Jawhariyya used film as a cultural weapon against the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland and other countries.
Explore how filmmakers like Michel Khleifi, Borhane Alaouié, Mai Masri, and Khadija Abou Ali produced new aesthetics in their films to fight against the Zionist narrative, whose primary objective has been to distort historical facts and obliterate the memory of the Palestinians' history of struggle, revolution, and resistance. This seminar showcases impactful film clips, illustrating how cinema can become a potent visual medium to document and expose war crimes.
