Islamization is an attempt to implement certain boundaries on modernization, and more particularly on post-modernism. It attempts to reverse the historical process towards hyper-secular consumerism and pluralism by paradoxically providing a traditional defense against modernity.
Climate change is high on the international development agenda as its negative environmental and socio-economic implications directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and thereby the well-being of humans and prosperity of societies.
This lecture will discuss green sukuk as an innovative financing mode for green economies, and opportunities for Qatar to mitigate the effects of climate change, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and SDGs.

The Translation and Interpreting Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to invite you to attend the 10th Annual International Translation Conference. The conference will feature presentations by leading experts and practitioners in the fields of translation, interpreting, media, literature, and journalism. The overall theme of the conference is ‘Translation Beyond the Margins’.
The process of decolonizing logic and critical thinking involves overcoming the tacit Western cultural and anti-religious bias that is prevalent in the modern curriculum. However, this should be accomplished without abandoning the aspiration to reason and objectivity and succumbing to relativism. In this lecture, Dr. Moad will explore the practicalities of this concept, and examine how best it can be approached.

A training workshop on CAT tools – computer applications that facilitate translation by providing a platform that assists with automatic translations.
CAT tools play a pivotal role in archiving previous translations into a database, together with the original texts, thereby increasing the efficiency of the entire translation process.
This workshop will be conducted by Mr. Wahba Elashkhat, Senior Translation Specialist, in English and Arabic.
The late Dr. Muhammad Hamidullah documented the covenants of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in his book, ‘al-Watha'iq al-Siyasiyah’. More recently, Canadian scholar Dr. John Andrew Morrow conducted a similar exercise.
Taken together, these works make a convincing case for authenticity, and are highly relevant to present-day Islamic societies.
This lecture will highlight the principles of peaceful co-existence and good governance in Islamic communities, as outlined in these works.
