Dr. Marcello Contestabile, Adjunct Professor, hosted an interactive session for students on the theories underpinning sustainable innovation policy.

Dr. Contestabile introduced students to the prevailing theories of innovation and how they inform the development of sustainable innovation policy.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Public Policy (CPP) hosted a workshop on February 8, 2023, to introduce students to sustainable innovation policy research.

Dr. Marcello Contestabile, Adjunct Professor, CPP, detailed how the focus of innovation policy gradually shifted from promoting industrial and economic competitiveness to accelerating the development and deployment of more sustainable technologies, like renewable energy generators and electric vehicles.

He then outlined several prevailing theories of innovation and how they have been employed by experts and scholars to support governments in designing effective policies surrounding innovation.

Dr. Contestabile drew from his experience as Chief Economist at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, a position he holds simultaneously with his role at CPP, to give students an interactive session where they could learn about theories of innovation to appraise sustainable innovation policy today and in future.
