The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) was founded as a hub for contemporary Islamic studies, fostering intellectual discourse on Islam within a global framework. Offering ten graduate and postgraduate programs, CIS prepares students for careers in academia, research, as well as cultural, business, and finance sectors through specialized tracks. It also hosts renowned research centers and clusters, facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue and scholarship. - Conduct assigned courses or seminars to contribute to student learning.
- Supervise independent study activities to guide students in achieving their academic and professional goals.
- Serve as an academic advisor to students, guiding them in course and thesis selection.
- Participate, serve on, and chair university and College committees in the evaluation and promotion of faculty.
- Render service to the professional or lay community relevant to the academic specialty.
- Direct research programs for undergraduate/graduate students and advise on research matters.
- Conduct research in the field of specialization and publish findings in scholarly journals or books.
- Serve on faculty committees dealing with such matters as curriculum planning and degree requirements, and perform a variety of administrative duties.
- Participate in curriculum development activities including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods to further improve the university/college teaching material.
- Conduct research or undertake comparable scholarly activity to contribute to HBKU becoming a leading research university.
- Disseminate key research findings through publications, conferences, and scholarly presentations to aid in making HBKU a reputable university.
- Supervise research projects and theses to ensure the success of research projects and students.
- Seek funding support for research to help make HBKU a world-class research university.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies seeks applications for the position of Associate Professor. The applicant will be responsible for conducting teaching, research, and service to contribute to HBKU becoming a world-class research university and collaborate with faculty members and students to create a vibrant university community that will positively impact and contribute to the development of Qatar and the region by advancing knowledge in their field and developing human capacity through their teaching. The selected candidate will be supporting the MSc Degree Program in Islamic Art, Architecture, and Sustainable Urbanism.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in certain fields.
- 6-8 years of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in the industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.
- Good evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development.
- Research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of Associate Professor in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities.
- Good evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization or professional.
- A growing portfolio of scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, IP/patents, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
- Good evidence for an increasing regional and international reputation in the scholarly discipline.
- Ability to work with and to include diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
- Participation to develop networks and collaboration within HBKU, and with program partners and branch campuses in both teaching and research activities.
- Teaching in the HBKU/CIS MSc program in Islamic Art and Architecture.
- Contributing to the program’s research profile, and professional practice.
- Engaging with stakeholders in Qatar and the region to address issues in Islamic Art and Architecture.
- Assuming administrative positions and managing research projects at the College level.
- Demonstrating the ability to combine global perspectives with national and regional concerns.
