The Qatar Metabolic Institute is very pleased to present the 1st Annual Qatar Metabolic Institute Conference. The conference, co-organized by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), will prove to be a significant milestone for the Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI). 

The aim of the conference is to launch the QMI as an Academic Health Institute as well as discuss international scientific breakthroughs and collaborative approach to the prevention and management of metabolic diseases. We have invited international speakers from the United Kingdom and the United States along with local QMI members. 

We look forward to hearing from our confirmed speakers Dr. David Nathan, Director, Diabetes Center and Clinical Research Center Massachusetts, USA, Prof. David Leslie, an eminent Professor of Diabetes and Autoimmunity at the University of London, UK, Prof. Ralph DeFronzo, an internationally recognized personality in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Research at the Texas Diabetes Institute, USA, alongside Prof. Ashfaq Shuaib, Director of the Neuroscience Institute, HMC, Dr. Hadi Abderrahim, Qatar Foundation, and Dr. Jassim Al Suwaidi, who will be speaking on topics in their area of expertise.

HMC in collaboration with the Academic Health System partners (AHS) established the QMI with a mandate to promote synergy and collaboration between existing programs and future initiatives and establish new clinical, educational and research programs to address the growing healthcare needs in Qatar. The QMI aims to foster the development of multi-disciplinary clinical, educational and research programs centered round improving health and disease outcomes for all patients through an inter-professional approach.

The QMI provides a central focus for metabolic diseases related activity undertaken by HMC and our AHS partners: Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar University, Weil Cornell Medicine - Qatar, College of North Atlantic Qatar, University of Calgary Qatar, Sidra Medical and Research Center, and the QBRI. 

We anticipate welcoming a large attendance of physicians, allied health care professionals and scientists across Qatar from healthcare, research and academic organizations and making the QMI conference an annual event.
