This panel will discuss the prohibition and criminalization of starvation as a weapon of war under international law, with a focus on the ongoing starvation being perpetrated in Gaza. It will examine the different branches of international law that regulate food supply in war, the political dynamics that have led to starvation in Gaza, the methods for gathering evidence, the mechanisms for enforcing the law to halt starvation, the obstacles encountered in invoking these mechanisms, and possible steps that could be taken to overcome these obstacles.
Organized by the College of Law and the College of Public Policy, the panel will bring together scholars and practitioners in international law, international relations, and the media to reflect on the catastrophic situation in Gaza and the responsibilities of the international community.
This event will be held in English.
