In today’s post-truth era, facts themselves face extinction with the destructive impact of war and the advent of tools that enable disinformation and propaganda. In light of this, this symposium aims to raise awareness on the mechanisms of information warfare, highlighting the critical role of digital archiving in preserving authentic records of war.
Japan’s experience in post-war recovery after Hiroshima and Nagasaki demonstrates the power of documentation and collective memory in rebuilding societies and fostering reconciliation. This is exemplified by the work of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo), which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024.
Building on such lessons, Qatar’s efforts demonstrate how nations can translate historical understanding into proactive engagement. As a leader in humanitarian assistance, conflict mediation, and international dialogue, Qatar offers a contemporary model for sustaining truth and fostering reconciliation in the aftermath of conflict.
The Palestinian experience presents a critical contemporary case where both historical documentation and active diplomacy face urgent tests. This event, “From Hiroshima to Gaza,” will foster a unique dialogue, drawing direct lines between the Japanese commitment to preserving memory and the Qatari pursuit of diplomatic solutions.
