Belgium historically and strategically serves as a bridge-builder for economic security, leveraging its unique geographic location, diplomatic tradition and logistics hubs like the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to anchor European and global stability.

As a founding member of the European Economic Community and of the European Union, Belgium also continues to foster European integration, by harmonizing strategic supply chains and industrial autonomy from the heart of the European Union. It actively secures global alliances by diversifying vital import flows, such as clean energy and semiconductors, through reliable international partnerships. By driving public-private synergy, the Belgian model successfully connects governments with the private sector to optimize risk management, ultimately inspiring a global shift toward open, resilient cooperation over isolationist protectionism.

Ultimately, this approach directly advances the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, positioning Belgium as a critical nexus that channels sustainable infrastructure investments and digital connectivity to build secure, mutually beneficial partnerships worldwide.

In this public lecture, Dr. Mohamed Ali Chihi and HE Eugene Crigns, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the State of Qatar, discuss an example of this strategy in action, highlighting Belgium’s deepening energy and infrastructure partnership with Qatar, which serves as a vital bridge for LNG integration and green transition initiatives, reinforcing economic resilience across both regions, and globally.

The lecture will be held in English.
