Part of the Reasoning from Scripture seminar, this public lecture explores a timely question: “How should concepts rooted in Qurʾanic and Islamic Scripture be understood within today’s political world?”
Focusing on allegiance, obedience, governance and authority, the speakers will examine how historically situated scriptural concepts are interpreted in relation to contemporary political ethics. The discussion will explore how inherited Islamic concepts are applied to the modern state, and what is preserved, adapted, or lost in that process.
