The UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), in partnership with the Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), and the Youssef SADER Foundation for Legal Culture, is proud to host the 2024 Rule of Law Forum.
A flagship annual event of KAS, the Rule of Law Forum covers current, relevant regional rule of law topics. Its overall goal is to highlight and discuss current dynamics and happenings within the scope of the rule of law in the Middle East and North Africa.
This year's forum features five panels, each comprising distinguished experts and moderators who will engage in insightful discussions on pivotal themes, including:
- Enhancing Judicial Transparency and Public Relations: How can we strengthen the relationship and trust between courts and citizens?
- Enhancing Business Accountability for Human Rights in the MENA Region: How can business enterprises stimulate sustainable investment and economic development while upholding human rights standards?
- The Implementation of International Environmental Treaties in Arab States: How can we Improve international cooperation and the implementation of international environmental treaties?
- Artificial Intelligence (Al): How do we best use and prepare for It in the judiciary, government, and legal practice?
- International Legal Frameworks for Addressing Conflicts in the MENA Region - The Role of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and International Law: How can MENA countries better implement international treaties and conventions, such as the Geneva Conventions and human rights treaties? What are the barriers to implementation and how can they be overcome?
