Dr. Zhaoyang Liu, Senior Scientist at Qatar Environment Research Institute (QEERI), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). His research involves design, synthesis and application of advanced materials and functional membranes for water treatment. He is credited with having authored many renowned research papers in prestigious journals, such as “Energy & Environmental Science” (IF=25.4), “Advanced Materials”(IF=18.9), “Nano Letters”(IF=13.7), and his pioneering research in advanced materials have been featured in top journal “Nature”. His research work were frequently cited (h-index 30, Google Scholar, May 2017). He holds 4 international patents for water production, and some of which have been successfully licensed to commercial enterprise. He was the co-founder of tech startup in Singapore specialized for membrane-based water treatment. He was selected as Editorial Board Member of the journal of Scientific Reports - Nature, as a result of his remarkable research profile and high-standing within the global scientific community of advanced materials for water treatment.

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, HBKU. Since joined QEERI, Dr. Liu has been leading the task “Advanced micro/nano structured porous membranes for efficient wastewater treatment”. A portfolio of technologies developed by his team are supported by QEERI, IPTT and QSTP for commercial scale up, with the targets to address the critical issues in the treatments of oil/gas produced water and municipal wastewater. Dr. Liu also serve as Editorial Board Member of the journal Scientific Reports-Nature, with the responsibility to ensure that research papers being published are entirely accurate, factual, and of the highest quality.
2014 - now
Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow (PhD Advisor)
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Dr. Liu’s research involved design, synthesis and application of advanced materials and functional membranes for water treatment. In addition to doing fundamental research, Dr. Liu has been trying to make his research more industry relavent. Some of his invention patents have been successfully licensed to commercial enterprise. Under the support of Singapore government, he co-found a tech start-up specialized in membrane-based water treatment.
