Biography

Professor Wang Rong is a full professor and president’s chair at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. She also serves as the Executive Director of the Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI) at NTU. A Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore (SAEng), she has been serving as its secretary since June 2024. From 2014 to 2020, she was Chair of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at NTU, and she served as President of the Aseanian Membrane Society (AMS) from 2022 to 2023.

With over 30 years of experience in chemical and environmental engineering, Professor Wang’s research and innovation are centered on water and energy. She has published more than 380 SCI-indexed journal papers, accumulating over 41,500 citations and an h-index of 112 on Google Scholar. She holds over 30 patents and technical disclosures related to novel membrane fabrication technologies. Her innovations have led to the establishment of three membrane-based spin-off companies in Singapore.

Professor Wang has served as an editor of the Journal of Membrane Science (JMS), a leading journal in the global membrane community, since 2014 and was appointed as editor-in-chief in 2020. In 2013, she was recognized by Lux Research as one of the world’s top 25 leading water researchers and received Singapore’s Minister for National Development R&D Award in the same year. In 2016, she was awarded the prestigious Alternative Water Prize by the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) in Saudi Arabia, followed by the Nanyang Research Award in 2018. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Professor Wang was listed among Singapore’s 100 Women in Tech (SG100WIT) in 2021, received the National Day Award, Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2022, and was honored with the President’s Technology Award in 2022, Singapore’s highest accolade for exceptional achievements in science and technology. In 2024, she was invited to participate in the Global Distinguished Educator Program (GDE) at Zhejiang University, China.
