Dr. Ala Al-Fuqaha
Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning

Prof. Ala Al-Fuqaha is currently serving as the Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). He joined HBKU in 2018 as Professor at the Information and Computing Technology (ICT) division of the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). Before HBKU, he was Professor and director of the NEST research lab at the Computer Science department of Western Michigan University. In 2014, Prof. Al-Fuqaha was the recipient of the outstanding researcher award at the college of Engineering and Applied Sciences of Western Michigan University. In 2018, he received the Best Survey Award from the IEEE Communications Society. In 2006, he was the recipient of the outstanding new educator award at the college of Engineering and Applied Sciences of Western Michigan University.

Prof. Al-Fuqaha played a key role in the design and development of the intelligent network management system for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (DWDM) optical networks that was deployed at 6 sites (NRL, NSA, NASA, DIA, DISA, DARPA) in the Washington DC metropolitan area as part of the first all-optical network in the world (MONET project).

Prof. Al-Fuqaha is a senior member of the IEEE and an ABET commissioner. He serves on editorial boards of multiple journals including IEEE Communications Letter, IEEE Network, Springer AJSE, and Transactions on Industrial Networks and Intelligent Systems. He also served as chair, co-chair, and technical program committee member of multiple international conferences including IEEE VTC, IEEE Globecom, IEEE ICC, and IWCMC.
