Ilias Bantekas is Professor of International Law and Arbitration at HBKU and senior fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) of the University of London. Before joining HBKU he was a Professor of Law at Brunel University London from 2006‑2018. He has held appointments at several universities, including Harvard, Miami, Cleveland‑State, SOAS (University of London), Trier, Cagliari and elsewhere. He frequently serves as arbitrator in international commercial disputes and has advised governments and international organizations in matters pertinent to international law and arbitration, including UNDP, UN Special Procedures, Council of Europe, IDEA and the European Union. In 2011 he was nominated by UNDP to co‑author the constitution of South Sudan and in 2015 he was a senior member of the Greek Parliament's Committee on the Truth of the Greek Debt.
