Roles and Responsibilities

The Sponsored Research Office (SRO), part of the Office of the Vice President for Research, is responsible for pre-award management of all externally sponsored research projects at HBKU. The SRO liaises with research Sponsors to attract external funding and provide guidance on all pre-award matters, including:

  • Identifying and disseminating external funding opportunities to all HBKU entities.
  • Assisting researchers with budget development and proposal preparation.
  • Conducting administrative review of external research proposal documents for accuracy and compliance with the Sponsors’ requirements.
  • Facilitating final external research proposal submission as per Sponsors’ requirements (including approving and submitting proposal to Sponsors on behalf of HBKU, when applicable).
  • Issuing, on behalf of HBKU, support letters and any other authorized institutional letters as applicable.
  • Managing HBKU registration process for external research sponsorship applications, where required.

Internal Deadline

The internal deadline is 15 working days prior to the application submission deadline set by the Sponsor.

Completed applications must include:

Proposal Internal Approval (PIA) form submitted through the SRO E-Portal.

Guidelines and full application package (when not available at the Sponsor’s website).

Final draft of the research plan, as per the Sponsor’s template.

Final budget breakdown, as per the Sponsor’s template (a budget template for HBKU’s budget is available under the tab “Forms and Guidelines”).

All annexes or any other supporting document required by the Sponsor.
