A multidisciplinary program aimed at building high quality academic and entrepreneurial capacities to support the aggressive rate of change and the challenges associated with the scaling of industrial systems.
Due to the unprecedented growth in traditional and digital market structures, organizations and states alike dedicate specialist teams to maintain, continuously restructure and improve their networks of logistics and supplies to further advance their economic, environmental and social development. For instance, in light of the evolving regional trade climate, Qatar has invested greatly in its existing world-class land, air and seaport infrastructure to leverage greater advantage of its geostrategic position and charter new trading routes. Upon the implementation of new projects in the upcoming years, logistics are expected to surpass 10 percent of GDP.
Currently, there are no academic programs on offer in Qatar and very few in the region in the area of logistics and supply chain management, to prepare and train increasingly needed human capital. The rapid evolution of the global marketplace also necessitates that the understanding, application and optimization of competitive logistics and supply chain networks must be up to date to effectively bridge gaps between suppliers, producers and customers.
The Master of Science (MS) in logistics and supply chain management offer innovative multidisciplinary curricula featuring a unique learning and research experience to students.
During the course of their academic studies at the Division of Engineering Management and Decision Sciences (EMDS), College of Science and Engineering (CSE) students will develop essential skills and knowledge of engineering, management and decision-making processes. The programs are specifically aimed at building high quality academic and entrepreneurial capacities to cope with the aggressive rate of change and the challenges associated with the scaling of industrial systems.
Notably, students will benefit from working with stakeholders from government, industry and academia. Furthermore, graduates of these programs will be equipped with skillsets vastly sought after by both the private and public sectors participating in activities for economic diversification and will support Qatar’s effort in becoming a logistical hub for the region and the world.
Logistics focuses on activities such as transportation, procurement, distribution, maintenance, and inventory. Supply Chain Management (SCM) also includes activities such as marketing, business decisions, new product development, finance, customer service and data analytics.
Overall, the programs are designed to be:
Common core courses ensure that all students develop fundamental and interdisciplinary competencies in logistics and supply chain management.
Electives enable specialization of students in any of the four tracks upon completion of core courses.
