The circulation services consist of borrowing, renewing, returning, and reserving print items (books, journals, etc.) at the library. Transactions take place at the circulation desk at the entrance of Library.

Only HBKU members with an active account and a valid HBKU identity card may benefit from these services.

Non-HBKU members are welcome to consult library materials within the library premises only.

HBKU Library welcomes suggestions and recommendations for new resources to be added to the library collection. Please fill out and submit the form on the link herewith.

Request a Book

Before proceeding, please note the following:

  • Suggestions are strongly considered; however, they are subject to the approval of the Library Team.
  • The title suggested must not be available in the library collection. Please check the online catalog to verify.
  • Graduate students must provide the approval of their advisor/course instructor by email to hbkulibrary@hbku.edu.qa right after they submit the request form.
  • To suggest a list of titles, please contact the library via hbkulibrary@hbku.edu.qa
  • You may also suggest a physical/print item via Interlibrary Loan if it is available in any of the branch campuses in the Education City.

Document Delivery Service provides users with research and study materials (articles, books chapters, proceedings, reports etc.) that are not available at HBKU Library.

To request an article or a book chapter not available in our e-resources, please fill out the following Document Delivery Service (DDS) Form. The delivery may take up to 48 hours (or two working days).

Interlibrary loan allows HBKU students, faculty, and researchers to obtain print/physical books and other resources available from other libraries within Education City, provided that the items are not available within HBKU Library collection.

Kindly search HBKU library catalog for print/physical items to check if they are available at HBKU Library. If not, then you may check the catalog of partner libraries and then fill out the ILL Request form. We will get back to you within two to three working days. Before proceeding, kindly note the following: 

  • Orders should be submitted before the relevant semesters’ deadlines as mentioned in the form. Late submissions will result in delayed acquisitions and deliveries.
  • The library advises using electronic textbooks, as print books may take 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.

The HBKU Library is now offering a Virtual Reality (VR) experience to enhance the learning, research, and recreational opportunities of its members. Active HBKU members may book a VR experience session via the portal below.

Before booking a session, it is important to be aware of the following:

  • The session duration is limited to a maximum of 30 minutes per day.
  • Each user can book up to two sessions per week to ensure fair access for patrons.
  • Upon booking, users must follow the instructions received in their email to verify their booking request.
  • Users must cancel their booking at least 24 hours in advance if they cannot attend their scheduled session, allowing others to utilize the slot.
  • All sessions will be conducted in the HBKU Main Library Meeting Room, Minaretein Building.

Book a VR Experience Session

The HBKU Library allocates 2 sets of study carrels available at the main library in Minaretein:

  • General Study Carrels 
    Located on the second floor, the general study carrels, with and without desktops, do not require reservation, and HBKU members are welcome to use them on a first-come, first-served basis. At the end of their visit, users are requested to clear up the carrels and take their belongings. The library is not responsible for any lost or damaged belongings.
  • PhD Study Carrels 
    Study carrels with desktops for HBKU PhD students to help them focus on their coursework and dissertations. The carrels are available on the first floor and must be reserved via the form below.
PhD Students must abide by the following guidelines:
  • The student has the right to reserve the carrel for a period starting from one month and up to a maximum of one academic semester.
  • The student must use their dedicated computer for study and research purposes only, respecting the library and HBKU IT policies, and instructions governing the use of computers.
  • The student must follow the HBKU IT terms and conditions while accessing the network.
  • The reservation of the carrel will be cancelled if it has not been used for more than 30 continuous days.
  • The student is encouraged to save the files on the Drive and not on the PC.
  • As speakers are not allowed, the student is advised to use earphones/headphones.
  • The student must be aware that:
    • The PC could undergo updates without prior notice.
    • Upon logging off, the files will be deleted.
    • The library is not responsible for any deleted/lost information on the designated computer.
