Overview

The CO2 Capture and Utilization initiative leverages QEERI’s CO2 capture technologies to build an ecosystem that reduces emissions and repurposes CO2 for synthetic fuels and chemicals through commercialization and partnerships.

Projects

This project aims to develop a high-capacity, cost-effective Direct Air Capture (DAC) adsorbent and an advanced CO₂ regeneration system to enhance carbon capture efficiency. It will also focus on designing and testing an optimized DAC filter for HVAC systems to improve indoor air quality while reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, the project explores the utilization of harvested heat from roads for CO₂ regeneration, power generation, and fuel production, contributing to sustainable urban cooling solutions. A key aspect involves analyzing plastic waste composition in Qatar and linking it with captured CO₂ to enable efficient recycling and circular chemical industry applications. Furthermore, the project will develop catalysts for converting plastic waste and captured CO₂ into valuable chemicals and low-carbon fuels, incorporating techno-economic and carbon footprint analyses to assess sustainability and economic feasibility.
