Founded in 2012, Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) is a pioneering national research institute under Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), which aims to improve and transform healthcare through innovation in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the Qatari population and the region.
In keeping with Qatar’s National Health Strategy and Qatar National Research Strategy, the Institute is home to three research centers of excellence:
Driving QBRI are advanced national facilities, cutting-edge technologies and enabling platforms to cultivate new scientific discoveries to be translated into therapies and strategies that combat diseases.
As a disease-focused institute, we concentrate on applying integrative and multidisciplinary approaches to provide novel insights into the molecular basis of health challenges, including breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, and neurological disorders such as dementia and autism. We also work toward the development of novel biomarkers, and diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Our aim is to facilitate early diagnosis, treatment, and management of select diseases towards improving personalized medicine and healthcare.
Being a global hub for biomedical and translational research, QBRI continually partners with renowned national and international institutions, enabling our institute to transcend geographical borders and challenges. Above all, we are dedicated to making meaningful contributions to the biomedical field that continue to advance our work by attracting outstanding scientists, who are given access to state-of-the-art research labs, and a truly unique core technology platform. Our efforts were recognized in 2017, when QBRI was awarded the prestigious ‘Arab Best Research Institution of the year 2017 award’.
We are also committed to the training and development of the next generation of scientists and highly skilled researchers. We provide mentoring, advanced scientific and research training opportunities and career guidance to young scientists to create Qatar's and region’s next generation of biomedical research leaders.
