Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), a leading research institute under Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), addresses Qatar's National Health priorities through its dedicated research centers: the Translational Oncology Research Center (TORC), Diabetes Research Center (DRC), and Neurological Disorders Research Center (NDRC).
Vision
Driving discovery and innovation to maximize health for Qatar and beyond.
Mission
Pioneering translational research and leveraging strategic collaborations to advance precision health solutions in diabetes, cancer, and neurological disorders.
QBRI Overview
Founded in 2012 as a national research center of excellence, QBRI is committed to transforming healthcare through innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that impact local and regional populations.
QBRI conducts pioneering applied medical research that supports the translation of scientific discoveries into more effective therapies and preventative strategies, ultimately advancing personalized medicine. Its efforts focus on developing novel biomarkers, diagnostics, and therapeutic solutions to facilitate the early detection, treatment, and management of diseases.
Through synergistic alliances and collaborations with national and international research institutions, QBRI bridges the gap between scientific discovery and practical solutions. This approach enhances health outcomes, advances precision health, and drives meaningful change in healthcare systems.
With a strong dedication to empowering the next generation of biomedical scientists, QBRI offers comprehensive training programs and mentorship opportunities. These initiatives, including internships, fellowships, and workshops, are designed to inspire and nurture young scientists in Qatar and beyond.
Research Facility
QBRI is located in the 223,000m2 HBKU Research and Development Complex (RDC), which houses unparalleled state-of-the-art research capabilities. The QBRI building is home to three research centers of excellence and seven core facilities. The institute’s renowned facilities house some of the most sophisticated equipment and research apparatus in the Gulf region and worldwide, under one roof.
Inaugurated in 2017, QBRI’s advanced laboratories are major hubs in driving forward cutting-edge research and innovation in Qatar and the region. The facilities are positioned as modern, efficient, reliable and tightly-networked shared resource laboratories to guarantee overarching support and scientific progression on several levels. QBRI’s world-class facilities are actively embedded in a growing national and international collaborative environment, including academic, clinical, and industry partners.
QBRI shares the Research Development Complex with Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and Qatar Energy and Environment Research Institute (QEERI). The strategically placed shared location creates a unique and combined infrastructure that is specifically designed to comprehensively address the Grand Challenges identified in Qatar National Research Strategy. The proximity facilitates interdisciplinary interaction and the cross-fertilization of ideas in primary research areas.
