The Division of Language, Culture and Communication (LCC)
LCC provides core curriculum courses in Writing, Rhetoric and Communication, in addition to electives in Humanities, Arts and Communication, all of which support undergraduate education across the university.
The Division also supports English for Academic Purposes (EAP) instruction for the Success in Engineering Education (SEED) Gateway Program and leads co-curricular as well as outreach initiatives that extend students’ communication, writing, ethical reasoning and engagement with the humanities and the arts.
The Translation and Training Center (TTC)
TTC plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic instruction and professional practice in the field of translation and interpreting. Its mission is to foster community development and enhance institutional capacity by offering a broad range of continuing education opportunities.
Furthermore, the Center provides high-quality translation and interpreting services to Qatar Foundation and its strategic partners. TTC designs and delivers specialized training workshops that aim to strengthen the professional and technical competencies of practitioners and CHSS students. These workshops focus on critical areas such as quality assurance, project management, and entrepreneurship, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to enter and succeed in the translation and interpreting industry. Additionally, the Center offers structured internship programs that expose MA students to a wide range of text types in a real-world work environment, thereby providing them with valuable hands-on experience under the mentorship of seasoned professionals.
Given the breadth and diversity of its programs and services, TTC maintains active partnerships and collaborations with numerous institutions within Qatar and the wider region. These include ministries, museums, educational institutions, and other entities, reflecting the Center’s commitment to serving as a hub for excellence in translation, training, and community engagement.
The Language Center (LC)
LC provides quality multi-level classes to individuals and organizations in Qatar, enabling its students to fully utilize these languages in their professional and everyday activities. The Center was established in 2012, and it currently offers language training in twelve languages for adults and youth: Arabic, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish.
Since the Language Center was created, more than twenty-two thousand students of different ages have graduated across the different language programs. Acquiring a language in its cultural context is also an integral part of the Center’s teaching philosophy. Therefore, the Center organizes cultural and educational events throughout the year to expose students to the cultures of the languages they are learning, working closely with foreign embassies in Qatar, as well as international language and cultural institutions.
Furthermore, LC provides internationally certified language assessments for Chinese, French, and German. The examinations aim to assess four skills: oral comprehension (listening), written comprehension (reading), oral expression (speaking), and written expression (writing).
