Overview
The Humanitarian Diplomacy Initiative (HDI) is a joint platform established by the University of Geneva and Hamad Bin Khalifa University, dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research, high-impact education, and strategic policy engagement at the interface of humanitarian action, conflict mediation, and development cooperation.
With a particular focus on conflict-affected and post-conflict contexts, HDI addresses the urgent need for more coherent, inclusive, and sustainable approaches to global recovery and resilience policy, especially in essential sectors such as health, education, and higher education, which are often severely disrupted by conflict and crisis. It also explores opportunities where shared humanitarian and developmental benefits can be utilized as entry points for mediation.
By integrating humanitarian principles with diplomatic tools, the initiative seeks to mediate in protracted conflicts, support inclusive dialogue, and foster transformative solutions that address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development goals. Working across governmental, civil society, and multilateral spheres, the initiative prioritizes context-sensitive approaches and empowers local actors to build resilient and peaceful communities.
