Biography
Dr. Ashraf Aboulnaga is the Chief Scientist of the Qatar Computing Research Institute, Hamad Bin Khalifa University. His research is in the area of databases, with a current focus on cloud database systems and graph analytics. Dr. Aboulnaga obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and B.S. and M.S. degrees from Alexandria University, all in computer science. Prior to joining QCRI, he was an associate professor at the University of Waterloo. Before Waterloo, he was a Research Staff Member at the IBM Almaden Research Center. Dr. Aboulnaga has received a Google Research Award, the Ontario Early Researcher Award, and Best Paper Awards at the VLDB 2011 and SoCC 2015 conferences. He has served on numerous program committees of major conferences and the editorial boards of top database journals. He is an IEEE Senior Member and an ACM Distinguished Scientist.
