Integrated Quantum-HPC Platform for Scientific Applications
This project aims to develop an integrated Quantum–HPC platform that brings quantum computing capabilities into existing and planned high-performance computing (HPC) environments at HBKU. The platform will treat quantum processors as specialized accelerators that operate alongside conventional CPUs and GPUs, providing the software, interfaces, workflows, simulation tools, and resource management capabilities needed to enable efficient interaction between classical and quantum computing resources. This project will also enable large-scale quantum simulation capabilities to support the development, testing, and evaluation of quantum algorithms within the HPC environment. These capabilities will provide a practical way to assess quantum approaches and prepare workflows for future quantum hardware. The platform will be benchmarked using metal dusting corrosion as a materials-science application, where conventional computational methods can face challenges in accurately describing complex chemical and material processes. We will evaluate whether quantum-enhanced approaches can provide added value when combined with established HPC methods. The project will also consider protein-drug interaction analysis as a second application area within the scope of the platform.
