Muhammad Usama Tariq, a Biological and Biomedical Sciences graduate student at the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently published a chapter in the book, “Essentials of Cancer Genomic, Computational Approaches and Precision Medicine”, which highlights the role of omics in precision medicine for cancer therapies. 

His chapter in the Springer Nature publication discusses the most beneficial techniques for genome editing in cancer in the 21st century – CRISPR-Cas9 – an area of life sciences which has the potential to revolutionize the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.

Tariq has previously worked on targeting cancer with small molecule drugs and is currently working on identifying therapeutic targets in colorectal cancer. The publication is in line with his interest in identifying therapeutic targets in cancer cells and molecular biology.

Sharing his research reflects CHLS’ role in addressing national and global health challenges by educating students in the fields of biomedical sciences, genomics, precision medicine, and exercise science to lead scientific discovery and advance personalized healthcare relevant to Qatar and the world.
