Government Affairs

HBKU’s Employee Relations Service deals with the following Government Affairs services:

Qatar ID issuance

New Employees Arriving in Qatar with their Families

If you are an employee who has arrived together with your family and you all hold permanent entry visas, you as an employee will need to undergo a medical examination and fingerprint registration first (before your family). After your Qatari ID is issued, the medical examination and fingerprint registration will also apply to your spouse and any children aged 15 and above. Children who are 14 years old and below are exempt from this clearance process, and their Qatari IDs may be issued directly after yours and your spouse’s (wife’s) QIDs have been issued.

For this process, you will need to submit the following to HBKU HR:

  • Passport – original
  • Permanent work entry visa printout (cross-check visa details against passport information) - copy
  • 2 x passport-sized, color photos with non-white background - original
  • Fully attested police clearance certificate issued from home country – original (unattested, official translation is required if issued in a language other than English or Arabic)
  • Canceled Qatari ID (if holding one previously) – copy
  • Doctor’s certificate in case of pregnancy

In case of pregnancy, you will be exempt from the chest X-ray and will have to undergo a skin tuberculin test instead, which will have to be done and booked separately three days after the blood test and a physical examination.

Qatar ID Renewal for Sponsored Dependents

The Ministry of Interior allows individuals and companies in Qatar to renew residence permits online for one to three years. The service is available on Qatar Ministry of Interior’s mobile phone app, Metrash2. To renew the Qatar ID of your sponsored dependents, click here.

Family Residence Permit Process

The following should be submitted to HBKU HR to begin the Qatari ID issuance process for family members after your Qatari ID has been issued:

  • Passport – original
  • Permanent family entry visa printout (cross-check visa details against passport information) - copy
  • 2 x passport-sized, color photos with non-white background - original
  • Qatari ID for the employee – copy
  • Doctor’s certificate for spouse in case of pregnancy
  • Canceled Qatari ID for spouse (if holding one previously) - copy

The above must be submitted as one separate file for each family member. This will ensure all documents, particularly the photo, are assigned and attached to the correct passport and visa.

Qatari ID processing is subject to a fit medical examination and successful fingerprint registration. If you have a wife who is pregnant, she will be exempt from the chest X-ray and will have to undergo a skin tuberculin test instead, which will have to be done and booked separately three days after the blood test and physical examination.

In case of pending medical clearance and fingerprint registration, a repetition of the process will be required until results are finalized.
