HBKU Law & Public Policy Colloquium: "Islamic Finance and the Global Financial System"

Background

The progressive growth of Islamic finance has helped various countries around the world diversify their economy towards supporting sustainable economic growth and performance. Reports in some countries indicate that the repercussions of the global financial crisis were more restricted in some countries with strong Islamic finance sectors. Still, Islamic financial institutions represent a relatively small number of total world assets.

The objective of the Colloquium is to bring together lawyers, economists and political scientists to offer insights into the Islamic finance sector, the framework of its operations, as well as the interplay between Islamic finance and the global financial system.
