Dr. Alexandra Butler and her team will be working on several interrelated projects. They invlove:

Characterization of the identity and function of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells directed towards a beta cell fate.

Identification of biomarkers to predict the onset of Type 2 diabetes and to predict hypoglycemic episodes in Type 2 diabetics on insulin therapy.

Determination of circulating IAPP, Amyloid Beta, alpha synuclein in diabetic patients with differing glycemic control to determine future dementia risk subjects with insulin resistance/ pre-diabetes.
