Preparations are well underway for Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) 1st International Conference on Visualization and Computer-Human Interaction (VisCHI). Co-organized by Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), the event brings together experts and users of scientific and data visualization, as well as computer-human interaction technologies.

Funded by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), and with the support of leading Qatari education organizations, the first edition of VisCHI will highlight local and global contributions to the study and development of visualization and computer-human interaction platforms. A series of keynote speeches and plenary sessions will be delivered by three esteemed international guests and 11 Qatar-based experts. Attendees will also be able to view submissions to an internationally-judged poster competition, a hackathon and demonstrations of these technologies in action. 

Speaking ahead of the conference, Dr. Michaël Aupetit, a senior scientist at QCRI, said: “The aim of the first VisCHI is simple: we want to inspire academic and non-academic participants to initiate collaborations across the fields of data visualization and computer-human interaction. Doing so will not only demonstrate Qatar’s place at the forefront of these technologies but also benefit the country’s aspiration to become a knowledge-based economy. To this end, we’re looking forward to facilitating two days of thought-provoking discussions.”

“A multidisciplinary set of emerging technologies requires an equally multidisciplinary approach to understanding their evolution,” added Dr Dena Al-Thani, an assistant professor at CSE. “We’re confident that the content of VisCHI 2019 reflects this and will inspire innovators and the wider community to advance the research and development of visualization and computer-human interaction capabilities.”

The 1st International Conference on Visualization and Computer-Human Interaction will take place from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on November 25 and 26 at  Multaqa (Ballrooms 1,2,3), formerly known as Education City Student Center.
