Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has established itself as a leading contributor to the nation’s tech-driven innovation expo through its highly interactive showcase. One of the conference’s silver sponsors this year, HBKU’s showcase was presented with the ‘Most Innovative’ platform award because of its capacity to display impactful research projects with promising potential.

HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering (CSE), and Computing Research Institute (QCRI), facilitated 15 demonstrations spanning artificial intelligence, food security, application development, assistive technologies, Arabic-powered technologies, and others – a microcosm of HBKU’s fast-growing in-house capacities. The university also showcased its digital learning programs, in coordination with worldwide MOOCs provider, edX, to an audience of more than 100 exhibitors.

Qatar IT Conference and Exhibition (QITCOM 2019), the nation’s biggest information and communication technology event, saw the attendance of dignitaries and VIPs across four days of cutting-edge exhibits. The HBKU platform welcomed HE Mr. Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications, who earlier announced QCRI’s artificial intelligence strategy in the conference’s opening ceremony. HE Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed Al Thani, Director of the Government Communications Office, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Media City, toured the venue to learn more about the various projects on-hand.

Speaking on the participation, Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, president of HBKU, said: “HBKU is a national resource of knowledge supporting the country’s aspirations toward becoming a globalized smart city. Our research efforts are showcased through our colleges and institutes, and they work in tandem to provide innovative solutions in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and accessibility. The adoption of QCRI’s AI strategy as part of Qatar’s governmental efforts will pave the way for high-impact, relevant progress with worldwide applicability. We have full conviction in Qatar’s ability to be at the forefront of this field.”

HBKU is an innovation-centric university in Qatar, leading in education and research, dedicated to solving critical challenges facing Qatar, the region and the world.  HBKU offers multidisciplinary academic programs and research capabilities that drive collaboration with the world’s best institutions, prepare future leaders with entrepreneurial mindset, and shape novel solutions for global impact.
