The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) currently offers the largest selection of programs within the university and aspires to be a leading college committed to excellence in research and education with a major emphasis on interdisciplinary research and scholarship. It has established three divisions: the Division of Information and Computing Technology, Sustainable Development, and the Division of Engineering Management and Decisions Sciences. CSE faculty members are internationally recognized for pursuing high-impact research addressing societal and economic needs in Qatar and globally.
The Division of Science at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), HBKU, is seeking applications for multiple instructional faculty positions in the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. The positions are in the disciplines of Physics and Mathematics. These positions will conduct teaching and service that contribute to HBKU becoming a world-class university and create a vibrant university community that will positively impact and contribute to the development of Qatar and the region by advancing knowledge in their field and developing human capacity through teaching.
- Conduct assigned courses or seminars to deliver high-quality education and engage students in active learning.
- Supervise independent study activities to support students in their research and independent academic projects.
- Serve as academic advisor to students, providing guidance on their academic and career pathways.
- Serve as mentors to students, helping them connect their academic studies with real-world applications and guiding them in their career paths.
- Serve on university and College committees to contribute to the academic and administrative functions of the institution.
- Participate in various university service activities, such as departmental initiatives and community engagement, to support the broader mission of the university.
- Render service to the professional or lay community that is relevant to the academic specialty, enhancing the connection between academia and the community.
- Participate in curriculum development activities, including the creation of curricular materials and special instructional methods, to keep the curriculum up-to-date and relevant.
- Represent HBKU by attending conferences, workshops, and other professional development activities to stay informed about the latest advancements in the field and network with peers.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in certain fields.
- 2-5 years of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.
- Evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development.
- Research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of Assistant Professor in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities.
- Good evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization.
- A growing portfolio of scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, IP/patents, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
- Good evidence for an increasing regional and international reputation in the scholarly discipline.
- Ability to work with and exposure to diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
- Support in developing networks and collaboration within HBKU, and with program partners and branch campuses in both teaching and research activities.
