Chair’s Welcome Message

Being the first WASM congress to be held in the Middle East and North Africa, we anticipate that the event will attract participants worldwide interested in getting a closer look at Qatar’s preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and engaging with local stakeholders. The congress will be an opportunity to bring together experts, academics, and practitioners from Qatar and the region, to exchange knowledge and best practices around sport management and other relevant fields. We have planned in collaboration with our local partners a rich social program including a welcome reception, a gala, and a tour of the most spectacular attractions in Qatar, as well as tours of the state-of-the-art 2022 FIFA World Cup venues.

The WASM is delighted to have Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Qatar University as co-hosts of the fourth WASM conference,  March 19-22, 2022 in Doha, Qatar. This is the first time that the WASM conference, held every two to three years since its inception in 2012, has been held in the Middle East. Our previous three conferences in Madrid, Spain (2014), Kaunas, Lithuania (2017), and Santiago, Chile (2019) attracted leading sport management academics, students, and industry leaders from over 40 countries and we are confident that the conference in Doha will prove to be another outstanding success.  We look forward to working with the local organizers in serving our mission to facilitate sport management research and teaching and learning excellence worldwide.
