The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at HBKU aims to deliver innovative programs that meet educational needs in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences for Qatar and the region.
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) invites applications for an Associate Professor position in Intercultural Communication and the development of Cultural Intelligence (CQ), Cultural Competence and Communication in Multicultural Contexts.
Candidates are expected to have long-standing experience in their areas of expertise and can inform and bolster our understanding of issues such as race, ethnicity, cultural mediation, identity, nationality, and transnationality. The candidates should have a dynamic and innovative research agenda, as evidenced through an internationally recognized, strong record of peer-reviewed publications and maintain an active research agenda.
The successful candidates will teach graduate courses at MA and PhD levels, applying a range of methodologies for teaching and assessment, and contribute to all levels of curriculum development in the area(s) of specialty including the development of the interdisciplinary PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences. The candidates will supervise MA and PhD students, commit to research-based teaching and learning, and the integration of professional practice into classroom activities, encourage and mentor students to analyze and reflect on Research Tools and Methods in Intercultural Communication, Intercultural Communication in Organizations and in the Community, Communication in Multicultural Contexts and Communication & Discourse Analysis, with a specific focus on new research and professional trends in these areas. CHSS accentuates the ethical and active deployment of communication in pursuit of social justice.
The candidates should demonstrate the aptitude to enrich our curricula through state-of-the-art didactic approaches, such as community-based, empirical, applied, or other innovative pedagogies, in existing and to-be-developed courses.
Successful applicants are expected to adopt a facilitator/teacher-scholar model of professional engagement with a pledge to service an established productive agenda of research and scholarship. They will work closely with other programs in the college, in particular the MA and PhD Programs in Humanities and Social Sciences, and with national, regional and international partners and stakeholders.
Finally, candidates are expected to contribute to a wide range of departmental and college-wide leadership tasks at a strategic level. They have to be fluent in English, and preferably in the language of the region.
