Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has organized a number of events open to the public in the coming weeks, highlighting the diversity of academic subjects explored at the emerging research university. By opening its doors to the community, the University seeks to continue to add value to the academic landscape in Qatar and be a hub for intellectual and cultural exchange between academics, industry experts, students, and members of the general public.
 

HBKU’s College of Law and Public Policy (CLPP)is holding its 3^rd HBKU Law and Public Policy Colloquium on the topic of “Islamic Finance and the Global Financial System” on Wednesday, November 30^th. The event seeks to bring together lawyers, political scientists, economists, students, and those interested in legal issues to explore the topic from a variety of lenses; examining how progressive growth of Islamic Finance has enabled countries around the world to diversify their economies. The discussion will be moderated by Clinton W. Francis, Founding Dean of the Law School, part of HBKU’s CLPP, and feature a panel of speakers including academics from HBKU, Georgetown University in Qatar, and the Managing Director of Debt Capital Markets at QInvest, Hani Ibrahim.
 

Elsewhere at the University, HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies will hold a book launch for “Policy Making in a Transformative State: The Case of Qatar” on December 12th. Editors of the book, Mohammed Evren Tok, professor at HBKU; Lolwah Alkhater, policy analyst and part time lecturer at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, and Leslie A. Pal, Professor of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton University in Canada, will offer introductory remarks at the launch event, followed by two panel discussions with the book’s contributors.Discussion at the event will touch upon education, health, social, economic, and foreign policy in Qatar and offer attendees insight into the topic from both Qatari and international subject scholars.
 

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at HBKU is inviting members of the community to an Arab-Chinese Costume Show at the HBKU Student Center on December 8^th. Organized by the Translation and Interpreting Institute Language Center at the college, the event is part of Qatar-China Year of Culture 2016, and will feature performances by students participating in Chinese language classes at the center. The event will introduce those in attendance to traditional Arab and Chinese dress for women, and explore the two cultures more in-depth through a series of family-friendly activities.
 

The University will also be participating in the 27^th Doha International Book Fair, which takes place from November 30^th to December 10^th at the Doha Exhibition Center.HBKU Press will display a wide selection of their published works and will hosta series of information sessions at the event. The University’s College of Islamic Studies will also be represented at the fair and will host a lecture titled Prophetic Seerah from Narration to Visualization – A Journey of Civilization on December 3^rd.
